The answers for Q#2 was unanimously fetchmail, and it can be found in
http://sagan.earthspace.net/~esr/fetchmail/ .
For Q#1, almost everybody says it will work except that my TELNET proxy
will not filter for attacks via the protocols. It is too simple to do
so. Maybe the best it can do is to hide my internal IP addresses to that
of the firewall itself, and maybe even some buffer overrun attacks.
