Managers,
this list is the best. I emailed my question on Sunday night before going to
bed, and by the time I got to work in Monday, I had over 56 replies!
There are too many here to list, so I will just thank the whole group.
Here was the question...
> I have a solaris 2.5.1 ultra that is creating a core dump about every 2 to 3

The answer was either the command
file /core
or the command
strings core | head -2
Both told me the answer. For me it was the qpopper that was dying. It was
always being restarted by inetd, so I didn't have any complaints about it. I
uninstalled the qpopper pkg and recompiled a later version and installed it
manually.
Thanks for the quick and correct replies!
