There are two solutions to this problem.
1) Install jetadmin and configure the printer using jetadmin. Jetadmin
is downloadable from HP's website and is available on the CDROM also.
>From the responses that I got, this should work very well. But if you
don't like to install HP JetAdmin on your sun machine (like in our
case), then there's the next option
2) Specify the queue to use on the jetdirect.
Either use lpadmin -p qname -shostname!text (for ASCII)
or lpadmin -p qname -shostname!raw (for PCL and postscript). The
problem with this is that you need to define two print queues and you
have to know which queue to use.
Many thanks to all who responded.
