1. Majority replied with an answer which I already knew:-
solution: try echo $SHELL or ps
problem: within session if you change shell few times, above two commands does
not help
Two Unique Answer which REALLY pinpointed to what i was looking for was from:

ps -ef | grep $$ <----this shows the shell you are in right now
ps <----- look for highest PID, that is the shell you are in.
