Thank you to all who replied.
The problem was resolved by restricting the root "/" partition below 2GB
as suggested.
I did not experiment with an upper limit as time was critical.
Setting it to 500MB worked fine.

Sparc 4
2.24 ROM
QUANTUM ATLAS III 3.5inch 91.Gb 10000RPM
Our sparc4 required disk a upgrade with a Atlas III.
Installed drive above main board in drive bay.
Booted Solaris 2.7 from CDROM and completed fresh install.
Upon reboot system fails to find boot block.
:bootblk: can't find the boot program"
Reading "Tip sheet fir Solaris Boot Issues" SOLARIS 2.X BOOT PSD/FAQ
Suggested solutions tried were:
installboot /usr/platform/`uname -i`/lib/fs/ufs/bootblk
/dev/rdsk/c0t3d0s0
and
# fsck /dev/rdsk/c0t3d0s0
# mount /dev/dsk/c0t3d0s0 /a
# cp /platform/`uname -i`/ufsboot /a/platform/`uname -i`
# umount /a
# reboot
Tried both but no avail. When booting from CDROM and mounting the disk
all directories and files are visible and pass fsck.
Thinking it may be machine fault I tried a Fireball 4Gb drive.
Installed 2.7 all ok and booted fine.
Any other suggestions? I'd really like to get the Atlas III working
since
we paid dearly for it.
