got quite a few responses on this one, that's why I like this list. I have
included the response from Manoj Kumar below. Several people suggested
sys-unconfig. I knew about this option, but I wanted to know the exact files
that caused this behavior.

Hi,
To do this do the following.
goto /etc directory
remove .rootkey
# rm /etc/.rootkey
and then
# cd /var/nis
# rm -f /var/nis/*
and now copy /etc/nsswitch.files to /etc/nsswitch.conf
# cp /etc/nsswitch.files /etc/nsswitch.conf
Thats it.

Subject: How to remove NIS from a client
Hello All,
Somehow when I did a fresh install of Solaris 7 I managed to make it think
that we are using NIS. I removed all occurences of the NIS stuff out of
/etc/nsswitch.conf but I don't remember what else needs to be deleted. I
would like it to behave as an ordinary system with local files.
What files do I need to modify/delete to do this?
